“The day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” -Anais Nin

Susan Trafton,EdD is a Licensed Psychologist.

“I provide a safe place for you to blossom. As the bud opens, the pain and hurt gradually release and the beautiful flower of who you are emerges. The therapeutic relationship provides the support necessary to allow that pain to be experienced so healing can happen.

My goal is to guide the individuals who come to me through the pain of anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions and difficult relationships to place where they can reclaim their birth right of joy, peace and love. My approach is holistic. I believe emotions, thoughts and painful body sensations are interconnected. The gateway into one’s healing can be through any of these doors. Usually all three ultimately need to be addressed. Healing of emotions occurs through allowing the pain to arise, be felt and thus let go. Healing of thought occurs through awareness that one’s thought patterns can create suffering. I help my clients become aware of their negative thinking and support them in choosing thoughts that bring a higher quality of life. I believe emotional pain is stored in the body which can result in body discomfort and illness. Thus, I help my clients release this stored pain. Through the psychotherapeutic process, the client gradually gains control of thoughts and emotions rather than be controlled by them. As the healing process proceeds my clients feel stronger, more resilient and self-confident, freed from past pain and empowered with techniques to live skillfully in their present lives. The ultimate goal is for the client to love themselves just as they are.

I achieve these goals through deep listening, cognitive behavioral therapy, inner child work, EMDR, mindfulness techniques, and yoga of poses and breath work.”

Jodi A. Brin is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults. Her therapeutic style is best described as integrative, utilizing the framework that she sees as most helpful to each individual, couple, or family that she works with. She has been trained in a variety of therapy modalities, including play therapy, behavior modification, cognitive behavioral therapy, supportive therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. She has worked with clients and various clinical issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, ADHD, and grief and loss. Dr. Brin has a wonderful ability to connect and empathize with clients, allowing her to use the therapeutic relationship to help her clients move in a positive, healing direction.

Dr. Brin believes that grief and loss experiences greatly affect all of our lives; whether it be a death of a loved one, loss of a pet, separation, divorce, loss of job, a move to a new house, a child moving to college, loss/change in health, etc. Dr. Brin believes that internalized, suppressed grief often leads to physical and mental health issues. After experiencing her own grief and loss, Br. Brin became increasingly aware of the vast and conflicting emotions associated with grief and was intrigued by the verbal and nonverbal messages she received from others in response to her loss. Looking to explore this further, she found The Grief Recovery Institute and Participated in The Grief Recovery Method® Certification Program. As a certified grief recovery specialist, Dr. Brin helps to provide a safe, supportive environment in which the client can explore old beliefs about dealing with loss, identify what losses have effected one’s life, and help the client to take the steps necessary to complete the pain associated with those losses and move forward. In addition to helping adults, Dr. Brin helps grieving children to understand and express their feelings regarding their loss and helps the parent/ caregiver learn how to best support the child.

Dr. Brin also has a very special interest in psychological oncology. A member of the American Psychological Oncology Association, Dr. Brin works to treat the social, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and quality-of-life issues associated with cancer. Dr. Brin helps the client from the time of diagnosis, during treatment and survivorship, and through end of life issues and bereavement.

Dr. Brin earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Michigan State University, and her master’s and doctorate degrees from Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. She is trained in play therapy, EMDR I and II, and is a certified Grief and Loss Specialist. Dr. Brin is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychosocial Oncology Association.

Nicole L. Bickham, PhD, LMT, is a psychotherapist with a passion for body-mind healing. Her therapeutic style is collaborative, engaging, and integrative. Nicole operates from the belief that we begin life in a state of wholeness, and are innately oriented toward growth, but inevitably encounter experiences such as physical or emotional stress or trauma, or simply not getting our needs adequately met, that divert the natural process of development. While our human adaptability affords us ways of coping with these circumstances that work for us initially, these strategies may become restrictive later, limiting our growth and resulting in tension and anxiety, a sense of not “showing up” fully in one’s life and relationships, and mood difficulties.

Outdated patterns of thinking, behaving, and relating often occur automatically, below the level of conscious awareness, making them particularly challenging to access with traditional talk-based therapeutic approaches. The body-based, experiential techniques she incorporates are uniquely suited to accessing the “stories” held in the body so that challenging patterns can unfold and shift. She views her role as one of creating supportive and accepting space in which clients can cultivate inner resilience, rediscover their innate wholeness, and restore a sense of clarity and purpose.

Nicole received a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Syracuse University in 2002 and later studied somatic therapy, bodywork, and inner awareness practices. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and is a Wisconsin licensed Bodywork Therapist.
