NIA Holistic, Healng, Dance-Based Movement
Classic NIA is a holistic fitness class combining movement from the dance arts, martial arts and healing arts, including yoga. Anyone can do NIA-it is appropriate for all levels of fitness and agility. Students are encouraged to modify all movements according to their own body’s needs. Movements are simple and leave lots of room for self-expression. Classic NIA is a fun, cardiovascular experience that gives you a new body and a new life.
NIA or Neuromuscular Integrative Action, is a sensory-based movement practice fusing nine different movement forms from the dance arts, martial arts and the healing arts including yoga. As a cardiovascular exercise, Nia builds flexibility, agility, mobility, strength and stability. It is effective for weight-loss and is known to help many conditions including depression, asthma, diabetes, arthritis and fibromyalgia to name a few. Bethamie balances the joy, excitement and fun of Nia with its calming, healing components and offers classes to women, men and teens of all abilities.

ADAPTIVE YOGA & MINDFULNESS FOR CANCER & CHRONIC ILLNESS
A guided Yoga experience designed to honor the needs of each individual student exactly where they are in treatment and recovery. In a safe, comfortable atmosphere, we will explore movement, breathing and meditation practices as tools to access the innate wisdom of our own bodies and make empowered choices in healing. Developed by a nurse from evidence-based research, the intention of this offering is to teach self-regulating techniques that can relieve the distressing side effects of cancer and chronic illness.

8 week class in mindfulness practices for the reduction of stress
Learning to be mindful is learning to be present in the moment with clarity and focus. Mindfulness techniques teach how to most skillfully manage the feelings, thoughts and body sensations that arise from present stress or past psychological wounds. With mindfulness the past heals and the present happiness is less likely to be sabotaged over worry of the future. The class will be structured as follows:
2/21- Class One: Basic Meditation & Mindfulness Techniques
2/28- Class Two: The Breath
Breathing techniques to lessen the symptoms of anxiety, depression, asthma, COPD and high blood pressure.
3/7, 14- Class Three & Four: Mindfulness of the Body
Focusing on skillful means of coping with physical and emotional pain residing in the body. Guided imagery and relaxation techniques, as well as, mindful movement practices such as Yoga will be taught.
3/21, 28- Class Five & Six: Mindfulness of Feeling
One learns how to not act feelings out and get in trouble in the world or hold feelings inside which can result in mental or physical illness. Participant will also learn to access more positive feeling states.
4/4, 11- Class Seven & Eight: Mindfulness of Thought
One becomes more aware of their personal thought process and how their thoughts affect both their body and emotions. The participants learn to choose their thoughts rather than be controlled by them.
