Moving through Loss: A Movement-Based Workshop for Healing Grief
Loss comes in many forms, including personal loss, lost relationships, the loss of abilities that can come with illness or aging, the loss of aspects of our identity, lost dreams, parts of ourselves that are lost or abandoned, our grief for the suffering of others and the world, grief passed down from our ancestors, loss of the illusion of control, and the impermanence of all things.
Loss is not meant to be faced alone, even while many of the cultural traditions for honoring grief and sorrow have disappeared. In this experiential workshop, we will gather to create a safe, sacred space in which we can explore grief and loss together. The workshop will incorporate an opening circle, guided reflection and journaling, opportunities to explore self-directed movement in a supported environment, and a closing circle.
The workshop will be facilitated by Nicole Bickham & Cindy Smith Katz. Nicole is a somatic psychotherapist who feels deeply called to support others in grief work. She is also a Licensed Bodywork Therapist and co-facilitates Ecstatic Dance in Milwaukee. Cindy has had a lifelong interest in creativity and healing. Her passion is in providing a nurturing space for those seeking relief from physical and emotional pain. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist and has experience working in hospice settings, leading meditation groups, and facilitating grief counseling groups.
